ORIENTAL STUDIES IN TRAINING OF CIVIL SERVANTS IN THE 18th-19TH CENTURY EUROPE

Abstract

The article presents a research into the work of three major centres of linguistic training of diplomats, translators and interpreters in the 18th-19th century Europe. The author explains the need for opening specialized university level schools aimed at practical language acquisition and their difference from the traditional university linguistic courses. The article gives a survey of the structure and arrangement of the schools, selection of staff members, teaching materials and methods of language teaching.
