Статья посвящена описанию географических названий - топонимов. Топонимы в данной работе рассматриваются в историко-этимологическом аспекте. Определяется междисциплинарный характер топонимов. Даётся классификация географических названий по разным признакам: происхождению, размерам, устойчивости, частотности. Кроме того, указываются пути появления топонимов, а также причины переименования географических объектов, существенной из которых является смена общественной идеологии. В заключении статьи говорится о роли изучения топонимов для науки и общества в целом.
The article is devoted to the description of geographical names - toponyms. This work considers toponyms through historical and etymological aspect. Their national language features are shown. Interdisciplinary character of toponyms is determined. The classification of geographical names is given on different grounds: origin, size, stability, frequency. In addition, the article points out the ways of the origin of toponyms, as well as the reasons for renaming geographical objects. It is stated that the most significant of them is the changes in social ideology. In conclusion, the article highlights the role of studying toponyms for science and society as a whole.
