<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article analyzes still popular and frequently staged Oscar Wilde's comedy «The Importance of Being Earnest» in the light of his philosophy of unreal. The play is looked at as a kind of a response to the popular «well-made play» and problematic dramas of the late XIX century, where deep philosophical content is combined with the brilliant wit of the English author. Numerous accidents and reckless behavior of light-headed people conceal the idea of the power of irrational. The play also reveals the motives related to the sexual orientation of the writer.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>новая драма</kwd><kwd>фарс</kwd><kwd>философия нереального</kwd><kwd>эстетические взгляды</kwd><kwd>случайность</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>new drama</kwd><kwd>farce</kwd><kwd>philosophy of unreal</kwd><kwd>aesthetic views</kwd><kwd>accident</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Меркулова М.Г.
