Статья посвящена личности и творчеству американской писательницы Мэри Хантер Остин, чьё творчество было связано с Юго-Западным регионом США. Из обширного литературного наследия писательницы выделены произведения, наиболее ярко отражающие проблемы и темы, интересовавшие её. Особое внимание уделено анализу известной книги Остин «Земля маленького дождя», отличающейся единством художественного и публицистического начал, которые характерны для стиля М. Остин, обнаруживающего творческие связи с Джеком Лондоном.

The article represents the creative personality of an American writer Mary Hunter Austin whose creative activity was connected with the southwest of the USA. In the extensive literary heritage of the writer the author singles out the works, which most obviously reflect the spectrum of problems and themes she was interested in. Special attention is given to the analysis of a problematic-subject complex and the descriptive row of Austin's well-known book «The Land of Little Rain». The work is characterized by the unity of the artistic and publicistic principles the author's stile is famous for. The author pays special attention to her creative connections with Jack London as well.
